Joanna Fieldes and Fran Maguire – Joint Statement
We were invited to be part of a group exhibition “Potters & Painters” and made four vases. Although we have had four joint shows together since 2010, this was our first time collaborating on the same pieces. Having worked closely together on exhibitions over the past five years, we have developed a sensitivity for each other’s work.
The vases created by Fran Maguire provide ideal medium and form for the expression, through Joanna Fieldes’ painting, of their shared ideas concerning the imported versus the indigenous. Containers of history link past to present while pointing to the challenges and consequences that exist today because of opportunities presented in the past.
Works by both artists are held in public and private collections in New Zealand and overseas.
At The Vivian, Matakana 21 February – 22 March 2015. A group exhibition.
